Installing new sod is the ideal solution for patchy or withered grass. It’s a quicker way to create a lush outdoor space than waiting on seed to sprout. Installing new sod is a lot of work, usually more than people realize. Overlooking a few steps or improper installation can mean your new grass becomes as patchy as the old. Selecting Your Performance Turf
Choosing the proper performance turf is key for your new project to flourish and look its best for years to come. Not all grass is alike, some will thrive in cooler climates while others in warmer climates, some will have a softer feel while others are more durable and able to withstand foot traffic. Steps
Sod Installation
Soil Prep
You should clear weeds from the area that sod needs to be added. Ideally, they should be cleared 7 to 10 days before sodding and topsoil should be added as needed.
Sod Quantity
Sod direct from our growing fields are sold by the pallet or rolls. To find the quantity of sod needed, use the calculator found on our website.
Sod Installation
We’ll lay your new sod in a brick pattern. Starting at the bottom of the slope, we’ll lay the first row in a straight line while placing the pieces tightly together.
Watering Your New Sod
After installation, soak the sod each day for approximately two weeks. Taper off to a normal watering program for your type of sod and its environment.
Fertilizing Your New Sod
A regular feeding program should begin three to four weeks after installation, during the growing season.
Mowing
Mow your new lawn as soon as new growth has increased by one third of the installed sod height. Do not mow before the new sod has taken root.
